Description
The Magar-class landing ships serve as amphibious warfare vessels in the Indian Navy and are currently on active duty. There are only two ships in this class, designed and constructed by Hindustan Shipyard Limited, with additional fitting carried out at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers.
These vessels are modeled after the Round Table-class ships that were once part of the Royal Navy's fleet. They are equipped to host two medium-lift helicopters, primed mainly for deploying small special forces teams, such as MARCOS. When offloading cargo and troops, the Magar-class ships necessitate beaching to utilize the bow door, a feature akin to the LST (Landing Ship, Tank) design for direct shore landings.
