Description
The Barrett XM500 is a rifle developed by the Barrett Firearms Company. Development was underway as of 2010, with the design drawing inspiration from the Barrett M82/M107 models, with the intention to create a lighter and more compact alternative.
The design features a gas-operated, semi-automatic action, chambered as an anti-materiel/sniper rifle. It uses a 10-round detachable box magazine, positioned behind the trigger, in a bullpup configuration. Unlike the recoiling barrel of the M82, the XM500 has a stationary barrel, likely contributing to better accuracy. Standard features include:
-
A removable, adjustable bipod located under the barrel
-
A top-mounted Picatinny rail, facilitating the attachment of optical sights or other accessories.
