Description

The CheyTac Intervention, also designated M200, is an American bolt-action sniper and anti-materiel rifle produced by CheyTac USA. Developed from the EDM Arms Windrunner rifle platform, it is chambered for either the .408 Chey Tac or .375 Chey Tac cartridges. CheyTac Inc. claims the system achieves sub-MOA accuracy beyond 2,000 yards.

The CheyTac system includes the rifle, specialized ammunition, and an Advanced Ballistic Computer. The M200 Intervention features a manually operated rotating bolt action and a Picatinny rail for mounting optics. It uses a detachable single-stack, seven-round magazine, with an optional five-round magazine available. Individual rounds can also be loaded directly into the chamber. The rifle has a heavy-fluted, free-floating barrel, designed for quick detachment. A shroud at the barrel's rear incorporates a folding bipod and acts as a carrying handle. A McArthur PGRS-1 muzzle brake is standard to reduce recoil and can be removed for the installation of an OPSINC suppressor. The buttstock is collapsible and retractable for adjustable length of pull and ease of storage and transport, and includes a hinged monopod.

Sighting options include:

  • Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 variable magnification scope (standard)

  • US Optics SN-9 (alternative)

Low-light capability is provided by an AN/PVS-14 GEN III Pinnacle monocular attached to the day optic via a Monoloc device. An AN/PEQ-2 infrared laser, mounted on a titanium strut, can provide additional illumination in low light. The CheyTac Long Range Sniper System integrates the rifle with a portable advanced ballistic computer, Vector IV laser rangefinder binoculars, and a Kestrel meteorological sensor package. These components are linked to the ballistic computer to provide data for long-range firing solutions.

The CheyTac Intervention was initially produced in several variants, including the standard M200 (29-inch barrel), the M200 Carbine, and the now-discontinued M200 CIV Civilian Variant. The primary difference between these models was barrel length, affecting muzzle velocity and effective range. The M200 CIV, a less capable version of the Mil Spec M200 with a reduced effective range, is no longer in production, and the 29-inch barrel configuration is currently the only version commercially available.

The CheyTac LRRS is an anti-personnel system effective to 2,000 yards, with the .408 cartridge primarily intended for extreme range anti-personnel applications. It has been reported to achieve consistent group sizes, including 7 to 9 inches at 1,000 yards, 10 inches at 1,500 yards, 15 inches at 2,000 yards, 19 inches at 2,100 yards, and 29 inches at 2,400 yards. Vertical dispersion for all reported groups out to 3,000 yards is stated to be less than 1 minute of angle.

The CheyTac M200 Intervention is used by the 601st Special Forces Group (Czech Republic), GROM operatives (Poland), and the Maroon Berets (Turkey).
