Description

The VKS (VSSK), also known by its development program name Vykhlop, was developed around 2002 for special forces units of the FSB. It was designed for special operations requiring silent firing and superior penetration compared to the 9×39mm VSS rifle.

This Russian bullpup sniper rifle features a straight-pull bolt-action, is magazine-fed, and chambered for the 12.7×55mm STs-130 subsonic round. It also features an integral suppressor. The 12.7x55mm STs-130 round has an overall length of 97 mm. Typical targets include combatants in heavy body armor or those behind cover. The claimed accuracy is 1 minute of arc at a 100-meter range when using precision bullets.

The 12.7x55mm round is available in several variants:

  • STs-130 (standard)

  • STs-130U (training)

  • STs-130PT (increased accuracy, 59-gram bullet)

  • STs-130PT2 (increased accuracy, solid bronze bullet)

  • STs-130VPS (increased penetration, 76-gram bullet capable of penetrating 16 mm of steel at 200 meters or body armor up to GOST 5 at 100 meters).

External descriptions suggest possible variants or similar competitive weapons with a removable muzzle suppressor, allowing firing without it.

The weapon is used by special forces units of the FSB.
