Description

The PGM Ultima Ratio is a French-designed and manufactured sniper rifle by PGM Précision, primarily chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO but adaptable to other cartridges via barrel variants. It is intended for anti-personnel roles and competes with high-end sniper rifles like the Accuracy International Arctic Warfare and Sako TRG lines. The name "Ultima Ratio" comes from the Latin phrase ultima ratio regum, historically inscribed on cannons.

The Ultima Ratio's design is based on a rigid metal girder chassis, which gives it a skeletal appearance, reduces weight, and simplifies maintenance. Features include:

  • A receiver made from 7075 aircraft-grade aluminum alloy.

  • A steel bolt with three locking lugs that engage a barrel extension.

  • Overpressure vent holes for safety.

  • A match-grade, fully free-floated barrel designed for easy field exchange.

The rifle has polymer pistol grip and forearm attached to the frame. The metal buttstock is adjustable for shoulder pad position, length of pull, and height, and it features an adjustable rear folding ground spike for stability, complementing the folding bipod under the barrel. A Picatinny rail facilitates the mounting of optical sights, lights, and night vision equipment, with optional emergency iron sights available. The rifle also features a fully adjustable two-stage trigger with a pull weight range of 10 N to 16 N and achieves approximately 0.5 MOA accuracy with match-grade ammunition and a skilled operator. It accepts either 5-round single row or 10-round double row box magazines.

Available barrel variants include the Intervention barrel (with heating dispersion ribs and an integrated muzzle brake), the fluted Commando I and Commando II barrels (with integrated or detachable muzzle brakes for suppressor attachment), and the Integral Silencieux barrel (with an integrated suppressor).

Standard chamberings include 7.62×51mm NATO, .300 Savage, 7mm-08 Remington, .260 Remington, and 6.5×47mm Lapua. A folding stock variant is also available.

Factory accessories include sound suppressors, ergonomic wooden grips and furniture, accessory rail kits, telescopic sight mounts, back-up iron sights, transport cases, and carrying slings.

The PGM Ultima Ratio is used by the Brazilian Marine Corps Special Operations Battalion and 1º Batalhão de Forças Especiais, France's Paris Research and Intervention Brigade (RAID) and GIGN, Israeli special forces units like YAMAM, the Lithuanian police counter-terrorist group ARAS, the Royal Moroccan Army, and the Slovenian Armed Forces.
