Description
The Desert Tech Stealth Recon Scout (SRS) is a bolt-action sniper rifle developed by Desert Tech (formerly Desert Tactical Arms), and introduced at the 2008 SHOT Show. On March 1, 2021, a product recall was issued for SRS rifles manufactured between December 8, 2020, and March 5, 2021, due to a heat treatment error potentially causing striker destruction upon firing.
The SRS features a bullpup bolt-action layout for a compact design, reportedly 11 inches shorter than conventional sniper rifles. This layout places the magazine and bolt behind the pistol grip, similar to the DSR-1, shifting weight towards the rear for a central balancing point. Sling points are balanced with the weapon's centerline for carrying. It includes an adjustable cheekrest and a raised, contoured buttpad. The rifle's weight starts at 10.5 lbs.
Initially designed for the .338 Lapua Magnum, it supports quick conversion to various calibers:
-
.260 Remington
-
6.5mm Creedmoor
-
6.5Γ47mm Lapua
-
7mm WSM
-
.308 Winchester
-
.300 Winchester Magnum
It uses a five-round box magazine and a 22β26 inch match fluted, free-floated barrel. The threaded muzzle, standard with a muzzle brake, can accept a suppressor. Accuracy is guaranteed at 0.5 MOA, and it features a 1-6 lbs adjustable match trigger. Construction uses polymer (available in olive drab, tan, or black), aluminum, and steel. A Picatinny rail system is on the handguard and upper receiver for accessories. The safety and magazine release are designed for single-handed operation.
Variants include the Stealth Recon Scout (SRS), SRS-A1, SRS-A2 (which replaced the A1), Stealth Recon Scout Covert, SRS-A1 Covert, SRS-A2 Covert (which replaced the A1 Covert), and SRS-M2. The SRS Covert variant uses shorter barrels, resulting in a shorter handguard and overall length, with 16-inch and 18-inch barrels in some calibers.
The Stealth Recon Scout is used by multiple countries, including the Czech Republic (selected by the Ministry of Defence in 2015), Georgia (Defense Forces, law enforcement, and state security agencies, being the first country to receive the weapon), Indonesia (National Armed Forces, SRS-A2 Covert within the Combat Reconnaissance Platoon unit), Lithuania (selected by the Armed Forces in 2015), Royal Thai Police (selected in 2012), Saudi Royal Guard Regiment (selected in 2013), and Ukraine (State Guard, selected in 2016).
