Description
The SIG Sauer SSG 3000, or Scharfschützengewehr 3000, is a bolt-action rifle developed by SIG Sauer GmbH in Germany, derived from the Sauer 200 and Sauer 202 rifle family. This rifle incorporates a modular construction concept.
Initially chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO, the SSG 3000 features a magazine-fed system and a 6-lug bolt dimensioned for short and medium action cartridges. The modular construction includes a quick-change barrel system, allowing barrel replacement in under 15 minutes by removing the stock and three screws using a 5 mm hex key. This facilitates changing between chamberings, with drop-in barrels available in calibers such as 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5mm Creedmoor, .260 Remington, 6.5×55mm, and .308 Winchester. Barrel length options include 46 or 60 cm (18 or 23.5 inches).
For models sold in the United States, known as Patrol models, the action is imported from Germany and mated to a USA-made stock by SIG Sauer, NH. Two primary stock options have been available for models sold in the United States:
-
A McMillan USA fiberglass aluminum design
-
An OEM aluminum bedded composite stock
The rifle is known for its quality and is a common law enforcement sniper rifle in Europe and the United States.
Users include military and law enforcement units in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, Hong Kong, India, Latvia, Mexico, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, South Korea, Thailand, and Turkey.
