Description
The FN FNAR is a semi-automatic rifle introduced in 2008, manufactured by FN Manufacturing Co., the US-based subsidiary of FN Herstal. The design of the FNAR is based on the Browning BAR hunting rifle.
The FN FNAR uses a gas system with a short-stroke piston located below the barrel within the stock, and features a rotary bolt with multiple lugs. Its receiver is machined from 7075 T6 aircraft-grade aluminum alloy, and it has a polymer stock with an adjustable buttstock and pistol grip. It is fed via detachable box magazines, with a standard capacity of 20 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition. 5 and 10 round magazines are also available. The rifle lacks standard iron sights, but it does feature a Picatinny rail on the receiver top for mounting optics, along with three shorter rails at the front of the stock. It has a two-stage non-adjustable trigger. Accuracy is guaranteed to be Minute of Angle.
Variants include:
-
The standard FN FNAR with a light fluted barrel
-
The FN FNAR-H which features a heavier barrel
A version marketed under the Winchester brand, known as the Winchester SX-AR, features a pistol grip and a 20" heavy profile match grade chrome lined barrel, a reduced length top rail, and one short bottom rail, finished in a Mossy Oak camouflage pattern. The standard 10-round magazines for the SX-AR are interchangeable with the 20-round FNAR magazines.
