Description
The FARA 83 (FAA 81) is an Argentine assault rifle developed in the 1980s as a potential replacement for the FMAP FAL rifle. Production began in 1984 but was halted in 1990 due to economic issues after 1,193 rifles were produced.
The FARA 83's design was influenced by the Beretta AR70 (Model of 1982). Features include:
-
A folding buttstock
-
Tritium sights for low-light conditions
The rifle uses a proprietary 30-round magazine, similar to an early Beretta AR70 type, and it features a trigger group for both semi-automatic and fully automatic fire.
The FARA 83 is a secondary weapon of the Argentine Armed Forces, which primarily uses the FAL rifle.
