Description

The Fusil Automático Doble (FAD) is a Peruvian bullpup assault rifle designed in 2008 by Peruvian arms designer Salomón Braga Lozo. Production began the same year by SIMA Electrónica, a subsidiary of SIMA (Servicio Industrial de la Marina), located in Callao. The FAD is Peru's first domestically produced rifle and remains in service. Intended as a replacement for the HK33 service rifle, the FAD was selected due to its unit cost, ranging from approximately 800 to 1200 USD. Plans are underway to phase it out in favor of a successor, the FAD-V2.

The FAD is constructed from stamped sheet steel and polymer, and features a modern grip. It lacks a full trigger guard; the cocking handle of its integrated 40mm grenade launcher serves this purpose. An M1913 rail is located at the top of the handguard, adjacent to the grenade launcher's sight, allowing for the mounting of various optical sights, including night vision or holographic sights. The magazine is inserted from below with a slight tilt to the left. Spent casings are ejected downwards on the right side, making the rifle suitable for both right-handed and left-handed users without modification. The operational mechanism utilizes the direct recoil of the bolt. The rifle features a fire selector offering both semi-automatic and automatic modes.

The planned successor for the FAD, designated FAD-V2, is intended to eventually replace the current model.

The FAD's operational history is limited to Peru, where it is used in the Peruvian Army as a secondary weapon. It has seen action in Peru's internal conflict, primarily within the VRAEM region, and is also employed in military bases and during national parades.

The primary user of the FAD is the Peruvian Army.
