Description
The Barrett M95 is a bullpup, bolt-action rifle chambered in .50 BMG (12.7×99mm), manufactured by Barrett Firearms Company. It is an improved version of the earlier Barrett M90, with the following modifications:
-
The pistol grip and trigger were moved forward 1 inch (25 mm) to provide better magazine clearance.
-
The bolt handle was redesigned and bent down and to the rear.
-
The barrel chamber is plated in chrome.
-
Minor changes were also made to the trigger and firing pin mechanisms.
In 1999, the M95 was selected in a military competition to become the new XM107. A small number were procured by the U.S. Army for additional testing; however, the M82 was ultimately chosen. The M95 is used for military and law enforcement applications in at least 15 other countries. The Philippine Marine Corps adopted the rifle in 1998.
Users include Argentina (Comandos Anfibios, Gendarmería Nacional Sección de Fuerzas Especiales, Grupo Alacrán), Austria (Jagdkommando special group of the Austrian Army), Greece, Georgia (used in limited number by special operations forces), India (Indian Army), Italy (9th Parachute Assault Regiment "Col Moschin"), Jordan (Jordanian Special Operations Forces), Malaysia (Malaysian Army Grup Gerak Khas), Philippines (Philippine Marine Corps), Portugal (Special Operations Troops Centre of the Portuguese Army), Serbia (72nd Brigade for Special Operations, 63rd Parachute Brigade of the Serbian Armed Forces, Gendarmery), Spain (Spanish Army and Spanish Navy), and Thailand (Royal Thai Navy SEALs).
