Description
The ArmaLite AR-30 is a bolt-action rifle manufactured by Armalite. It was introduced at the 2000 SHOT Show and is based in part on Armalite's AR-50 rifle.
The AR-30 utilizes a bolt-action mechanism and features a 5-round detachable box magazine. It has an empty weight of 12 pounds, an overall length of 48 inches, and a 26-inch chrome-moly barrel with 6 grooves and a 1:10-inch right-hand twist. The receiver is modified in octagonal form and is drilled and slotted for a scope rail, while the bolt incorporates a dual front locking lug. The trigger is a Shilen standard single-stage type with approximately a 5 lb. pull. The stock is constructed in three sections: an extruded forend, a machined grip frame with a vertical grip, and a forged and machined removable buttstock. The buttplate is vertically adjustable and built specifically for heavy calibers.
The rifle is available in the following cartridges:
.308 Winchester
.300 Winchester Magnum
.338 Lapua
A muzzle brake is optional for the .308 Winchester and .300 Winchester Magnum chamberings, and standard for the .338 Lapua model. The mil-standard scope rail includes a boss designed to engage a cross-slot on the receiver.
The AR-30 series includes several variants. The AR-30A1, introduced in November 2012, is a redesigned model that shares few parts with the original AR-30 and replaced it in the product lineup. The AR-30A1 is available in .300 Winchester Magnum and .338 Lapua Magnum chamberings, with both standard (fixed stock) and target (thumb-wheel adjustable stock, enhanced rails) configurations offered. The AR-31, introduced in October 2013, is a short-action rifle based on the long-action AR-30A1, chambered in .308 Winchester, and is designed to accept AR-10B magazines.
