Description
The Cessna 441 Conquest II development commenced in November 1974, with the first delivery in September 1977. Originally conceptualized in 1972 as the Model 435 powered by Continental GTSIO-520X engines, the design evolved by 1975 into the turboprop-powered Model 441. FAA certification was achieved on August 19, 1977. Cessna built 362 of the aircraft between 1977 and 1986. The Model 441 was renamed the Conquest II in 1983. Starting with constructor number 195 in 1984, the aircraft featured lighter-weight, four-bladed McCauley propellers. While a variant with Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-112 turboprops was tested in 1986, it did not enter production.
The Cessna 441 Conquest II features a pressurized cabin accommodating 8–9 passengers, and its high aspect ratio wings employ bonded construction techniques. The aircraft was initially powered by two Garrett TPE331-10-403S turboprop engines, originally equipped with three-bladed propellers, and incorporates the Cessna 1000A Integrated Flight Control System. Later models, starting in 1984 with constructor number 195, were fitted with lighter-weight, four-bladed McCauley propellers. Many in-service 441s have been upgraded to TPE331-10 engines and four-bladed propellers, which improve climb performance, service ceiling, climb rate, cruise speed, and ground clearance, while also reducing cabin noise.
The Cessna 441 Conquest II has been operated by corporate owners and air charter services, as well as by organizations such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Australia. The aircraft has seen global use, with exports to countries including Austria, Australia, Canada, Ecuador, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Mexico, Norway, Peru, South Africa, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Many examples of the Cessna 441 in service today have been upgraded with TPE331-10 engines and four-bladed propellers to enhance performance.
