Seychelles People's Defence Force Air Wing

The Seychelles Air Force is the aerial warfare branch of the Seychelles People's Defence Force (SPDF). It was officially established on October 1, 1978, under the command of the SPDF. Initially, its main role was to perform maritime surveillance and support operations in the Indian Ocean region. The air force operates from the Seychelles International Airport and primarily focuses on patrolling the country's exclusive economic zone to counter illegal activities, such as piracy, drug trafficking, and illegal fishing. The fleet consists of various aircraft, including surveillance and transport planes. The air force does not have any combat aircraft. The training of personnel is carried out both locally and abroad, with an emphasis on basic military skills, technical proficiency, and specialized courses for aircraft maintenance. The Seychelles Air Force has participated in joint exercises and training programs with international partners, such as the Indian Navy and the United States Africa Command, to enhance its capabilities and improve maritime security in the region.
